Reception Recognizes FISH Top Donors
Recently, Herndon-Reston FISH held a reception to thank people who had contributed $1,000 or more to support the mission of FISH.
The reception was hosted by Joe and Bobbie Hering at their beautiful home on the lake in Reston. The donors, both individual and corporate, mingled with FISH Board members as they enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres, wine, and soft drinks provided by Catering By Windows.
Though it was a festive evening, the monies received from the generous donations serve a serious cause. They provide emergency financial help to individuals and families in distress in the Herndon and Reston community.

“The generosity and good will of our donors has sustained the good work of our organization for 41 years,” said Darlene Tolbert Palmer, President of Herndon-Reston FISH. “We are happy to recognize our donors, in this small way, for their support and their service to the community.”
“The key to fulfilling the mission of FISH,” said Ms. Palmer, “is that we offer instant assistance to people who have lost a job, for instance, and can’t make a rent payment or pay a utility bill. Our Phone Assistance volunteers receive more than 100 calls every day from people in need. A volunteer will question and screen the callers and, for those with urgent needs, contact a landlord or a utility representative to arrange a payment.”
In return for FISH support, a recipient is required to attend a financial workshop. The workshop aims to help attendees improve personal money management.
The Donor Reception was planned and organized by Janet Hyman, FISH Board member who chairs the Fundraising Committee, Ellen Graves, Board member on Fundraising Committee, with the help of past President Marcia DiTrapani and Sherri Longhill, Bargain Loft Manager and Executive Director.
Another Donor Reception is planned for those who contributed up to $1,000.

Fundraising Committee
The Fundraising Committee has been busy this Fall with some new ways of raising $ $ $ for FISH. We had our first "Not a Tea" which has raised over $2,500.00 so far.
There have been two eat-for-FISH events; one at Red, Hot, & Blue and the other at Lucia’s Restorante. On Monday, January 24, Chick-fil-A will be our place to eat.
FISH Fling 2011, will be held on April 2 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Herndon. We are seeking donations for our live and silent auctions. Contact Marcia DiTrapani with your offerings.
